Another South Korean company, LG Electronics, currently has a phase 1, $300 million washing machine plant in Corporate Business Park North.ĪtlasBX will produce 2.4 million batteries per year in Clarksville. Its sister company, Hankook Tire, opened its $800 million tire manufacturing plant in Clarksville in October 2017. It produces batteries for traditional passenger cars, light trucks, electric vehicles, commercial vehicles, boats and recreational vehicles.Įstablished in 1944, it exports to about 120 countries and currently operates two manufacturing plants in South Korea, which is also the location of its global headquarters office. “They’re not making batteries at this time, other than having done some test runs,” Tate said.ĪtlasBX received its certificate of occupancy in May and its initial employees have moved out of construction trailers, into the nearly-completed building.Ītlas BX is a manufacturer of storage batteries primarily in South Korea. “Currently, their employment base is under 100 people, but they are adding employees daily,” Tate said. The 210,000-square-foot AtlasBX plant is expected to employ 190 people at its peak. The company plans to automate the entire production process, and to establish a quality analysis and control system that will be “the benchmark for all other cathode plants in the world.” LG Chem says the plant will incorporate its most advanced production technology, including the ability to produce more than 10,000 tons of cathode material per line. ![]() The new facility will produce NCMA cathode materials containing nickel, cobalt, manganese and aluminum for next-generation EV batteries. Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2023, and mass production is expected to start in the second half of 2025. LG Chem says its new Tennessee facility will allow it to “proactively address the changing dynamics of the global battery material market and with legislation such as the Inflation Reduction Act.” Manufacturing plants for batteries and other EV components are popping up all over the country these days, and the announcements invariably mention President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, which offers incentives for companies to establish supply chains here in the good old USA.
